Review: Valkyrie's Vengeance by Melissa Snark

~ Book Name ~  Valkyrie's Vengeance (Loki's Wolves #1)

~ Genre ~ Norse & Viking Fantasy

~ Blurb ~

A thirty-year alliance that aligned wolves and hunters has shattered.

Victoria Storm leads a few surviving members of her pack in a desperate flight. As the only surviving child of their leaders, the she-wolf inherited the role of Alpha. The violent deaths of her parents and the man she loved left her devastated, and the lives of her followers depend on her decisions. Simple survival often conflicts with the demands of preserving her Norse heritage, so she must struggle to balance her duties as Freya's priestess and Odin's Valkyrie. When innocent children are abducted, she must set aside her differences and work with her worst enemy to rescue them.

~ My Review ~

This is an exciting easy read following Victoria as she gets a message from the Norse Goddess Freya to free abducted children. Interspersed throughout the storyline is her sorrow over the memories of the tragic loss of her parents, pack and Daniel, the hunter she loved.

I love how the author brings the story to a spiritual fantasy feeling with conversations between Victoria and the Goddess. Even the addition of the hunters who are lead by Jake the father of her deceased love and who blame her for his death adds an intriguing twist to the story with them wanting to kill her.

Let’s not forget krampus the evil child thief. This part for me was well written and though scary it didn’t make me want to not read that part nor give me nightmares. In other words it was the right amount of scary to impact the reader and add to the storyline.

But things aren’t always as they seem and sometimes throughout the story you can see the pain in the father and Victoria over the loss of Daniel. The hate they both feel for each other and how they pull together to save the children.

This is a cliffhanger and not an HEA but it is a story that pulls you in so you have to read the next book to see what happens next. I give it 4 STARS.

~ About The Author ~

A friend asked me once how I chose my pen name. I told her the following: “Melissa, because when people mix up my first name, it’s the most common goof up. Snark, because it amuses me. A) I love the word ‘snarky’ and B) I love Lewis Carroll.”

As an individual, I’m sarcastic, stubborn and blunt to a fault. I have a strange sense of humor and I like to laugh (usually at my husband or children), but also at myself. I’m not particularly extroverted, although I do enjoy time with my family and close friends a great deal.

At the moment, I’m a stay at home mom who writes in my spare time. I’ve got a B.S. from Arizona State University in Business, and I’ve worked a variety of different jobs, including as a medical device documentation specialist, a technical writer, and an auto liability adjuster.

I live in the San Francisco East Bay of Northern California with my husband, three kids, and three cats. My hobbies include roleplaying, cooking and reading.

I maintain a blog, which I update regularly at The Snarkology.

Arc Review: Barefoot in Pearls by Roxanne St. Claire

~ Book Information ~

Book: Barefoot in Pearls, Barefoot Bay Brides Trilogy
Author: Roxanne St. Claire
Release Date: January 30, 2015
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Native American, Intrigue

~ Blurb ~

As her two best friends settle into their happily ever afters, destination wedding designer Arielle Chandler is beginning to wonder if the promise of “The One” – one true love, meant only for her – is merely folklore passed down from her Native American grandmother. But when a mysterious man nearly mows her down on a hill overlooking Barefoot Bay, the legend of destined love suddenly feels very real. That is, until Ari learns of Luke McBain’s plans to demolish a piece of land she believes is sacred.

Luke isn’t proud of the fact that he spent ten years as a mercenary warrior, fighting battles for another country. With those dark days behind him, he’s focused on creating a new life instead of destroying others, so he’s moved to Barefoot Bay to launch a contracting business and build a house for an old friend. But when an enigmatic dark-eyed beauty steals his attention and stops his progress with her announcement that he is about to flatten a native burial ground, Luke has a new battle to fight.

While their immediate and potent attraction grows complicated, Luke and Ari discover the hills of Barefoot Bay could be hiding something far different – and even more valuable – than ancient art or graves. They are determined to discover the truth, but that will come at a cost. Will they risk their chance at once-in-a-lifetime love to uncover secrets that could change the landscape of Barefoot Bay forever?

~ My Review ~ 5 Stars

This is the first book I read of the Barefoot Bay Brides Trilogy and I absolutely loved this book. The Native American influence in the story line really spoke to my Cherokee heritage. The author handled Arielle’s spiritual beliefs handed down from her Shaman grandmother in a lovingly expressive way. I wanted to cry when Ari explained how if her grandma were alive she would perform a wedding ceremony. It was so beautiful I wanted to get married again in that manner. This book touched my heart because I had a relationship like this with my grandmother.

This is not a mushy romantic story instead it is a love story of spiritual beliefs, honoring love for oneself, love for her deceased grandmother and why she is waiting for “The One”. It is a book about a man who is damaged, afraid to love and who doesn’t believe in “The One”. But even more exciting is the fact that there is some mystery and intrigue built all through the story making you to want to read the book in one sitting.

The book mentions the couples from the first two books, Willow and Nick and Gussie and Tom. Now I am so excited to learn how those two couples got together that I am heading to read Barefoot in White.

I didn’t read this series in order but it would probably be a good idea just for continuity sake. I would suggest picking up all three. They will be easy reads and a wonderful way to spend a weekend.

Also at the end of the book is an exciting excerpt for her new series spinoff Barefoot Bay Undercover. I really want to read that one and have added it to my books to read list.

I give this 5 STARs and it is great for everyone

REVIEW: The Lost Chalice by Anita Clenney

Sportochick's Musings ~ The third book in Anita Clenney’s Relic Seeker series is full of action packed intrigue and romance.

The Lost Chalice

A Relic Seekers Novel

by  Anita Clenney

Find The Book At ~ Amazon | B&N | Goodreads
Publisher ~ Montlake Romance
Genres ~ Romantic Suspense, Adventure, Fantasy, Mystery

Adrenaline-fueled adventure and epic romance mix seamlessly in the third installment of New York Times bestselling author Anita Clenney’s Relic Seekers series.

Relic hunter and archaeology expert Kendall Morgan has a lot on her mind. After finding the Fountain of Youth—and discovering that Nathan, her handsome billionaire boss, might actually be her long-lost childhood love—she could really use some time to think. Except a two-thousand-year-old Protettori guardian has just teleported into her bathroom, desperate for help.

The Reaper, an ancient and sinister being consumed with finding the world’s most powerful relics, is after the Holy Grail. Now Kendall must use her sixth sense to find it first. With both Nathan and her brooding bodyguard, Jake, by her side, Kendall sets out to find the lost chalice in a dangerous quest that will test her abilities, her heart, and everything she thought she knew.

The third book in Anita Clenney’s Relic Seeker series is full of action packed intrigue and romance. There are lots of twists and turns to the plot but she does an amazing job of keeping the reader clear headed and not confused about what is happening.

The secondary characters of Raphael, Marco and the Reaper will keep the reader on their toes with some surprising revelations and a large presence in the storyline. Another secondary character is introduced, Gregor now I wonder if he is going to be a villain who joins forces with the Reaper or goes after the Reaper.

Kendall’s personality continues to expand creating a captivating character that will hold your attention throughout the book. I do love how strong she is and how she tries to rationalize her feelings for both Nathan and Jake. But I have to say both Nathan and Jake‘s characters have grown more defined in this book as well causing a dilemma for me as to which of the men she should choose.

In this book the mystery behind her long-lost childhood love Adam is solved and I am happy to say that is was who I was hoping it to be. Also the mystery to who is the child of the Reaper is solved. It was not who I thought. I do love a book that isn't easy to solve.

This book isn’t just about her relationships with these two men. It is an action packed adventure with a wow factor ending that I did not see coming but REALLY loved. This book answers the question of why Nathan's eyes change and he becomes super human. I look forward to the next book in this series.

I give it 5 STARS and recommend it for everyone.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

The Lost Chalice - My Review          Amazon

My name is Anita Clenney and I write Mysteries and Paranormal Romantic Suspense. I’ve worked in a pickle factory (picture Lucy and Ethel, hair nets and all--lasted half a day), a preschool, booked shows for Aztec Fire Dancers, been a Secretary, Executive Assistant, and a Realtor, and through it all, I’ve been in love. Sometimes it was wonderful, sometimes it hurt so bad I could hardly breathe. Then I found Mr. Right, and the two of us multiplied into a family of four. We live in Virginia, not far from Washington, DC, where we are slaves to a white Boxer named Lily, who thinks we live and breathe to buy new stuff for her to chew up. My husband is a Network Architect, and it’s a good thing because technology doesn’t like me. My son plans to be a famous hockey or football player, and my daughter will probably figure out a way to rule the world.

With scenes rolling nonstop in my head and my feet rarely on the ground, I should have realized that I was born to write much earlier in life, but alas, no. Not until I was on the wrong side of 40 did I hear the keyboard calling me. But then I tend to do things backwards.

When I decided to wrestle the stories in my imagination and dreams onto the page, my husband and kids encouraged me all the way. Even when I was in the middle of a heated battle with warriors and demons and forgot that people in the real world had to eat dinner and that dishes didn’t wash themselves, still my family supported me. Finally it paid off. After three years, eleven months and twenty-two days, I got THE CALL from my wonderful agent Christine Witthohn of  Book Cents Literary Agency, who is really Wonder Woman in disguise. A publisher wanted to buy my story. MY STORY!!! Not just one, but three of them. A new journey begins and I hope you’ll join me for the ride.

Some of my favorite things:

God -- Family (greatest family in the world) -- Diamonds (ooh la la, do I love diamonds)  --  Blue Jeans  --  Interior Decorating (I admit I have a fetish for beautiful mirrors)  --  Trees and Summer breezes (there’s nothing better than the wind whispering in the leaves on a warm, summer day, especially if you're curled up with a book) --  Reading --  Shopping for bargains (I buy so many they’re no longer a bargain. Can you say one in every color please?)  --  Junk food (trying to control that but not having much luck) --  The TV show LOST  --  Loreena McKennitt’s music  --  Mysteries and Romance… of course  --  And my fabulous editing partner, writer Dana Rodgers, another of my favorite things. I don’t know what I’d do without her.

Review: Secrets on the Sand by Roxanne St. Claire

~ Genre ~ Contemporary Romance, Novella

~ Blurb ~

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Roxanne St. Claire has been enchanting readers with stories set on an idyllic slice of paradise off the coast of Florida known as Barefoot Bay for two years. In the first Barefoot Bay series, four friends joined forces to build and run a homegrown resort and spa and, in the process, found life-long love.

Now it is time to get to know some of the special guests of Casa Blanca Resort & Spa, which is fast turning into a playground for the rich and an elite destination wedding site. In the brand new Billionaires of Barefoot Bay trilogy, meet a trio of sexy heroes and the most unlikely ladies who steal their hearts in three novella-length (appx. 150 pages) love stories.

In Secrets on the Sand, Zeke Nicholas has turned his mathematical genius skills into a mountain of money. But Zeke sits on that mountain all alone, longing for the one thing money cannot buy: a lifelong partner and true love. Zeke grew up near Barefoot Bay and is staying at the resort for a week while he’s in town for a family event. Enter Mandy Mitchell...the maid. Except, Mandy is much more than that to Zeke—she was the object of his every teenage dream back in the days when she was known as “Mandy the Magnificent” but he'd earned the unflattering high school senior adjective of “Ezekiel the Geekiel.”

Zeke is no longer a geek—he’s gorgeous. And Mandy doesn’t feel so magnificent since her marriage fell apart and left her up to her eyeballs in debt and despair. The minute they meet again, Mandy knows he’s exactly the kind of trouble she should avoid...but Zeke does have one thing Mandy needs to gain the independence she craves. Will he give it to her? One look at Mandy, and Zeke turns his relentless ability to get what he wants into a full-on seduction and he’s ready to give her anything. But can Mandy face down the secrets of her past to find a fairy-tale future with Zeke?

~ My Review ~

Bestselling author Roxanne St. Claire has been done a brilliant job of writing an entertaining first book to the Barefoot Bay series. At the time of this post this book was free and I am so glad I picked it up.  I could tell by this book that I definitely want to read the next book.

This story centers on the Casa Blanca Resort & Spa where Mandy works as a maid and Zeke is staying as a guest.

Zeke is from Barefoot Bay and the author writes a very heartfelt story showing whom this billionaire was in high school, “Ezekiel the Geekie!” and who he became. His character was well written and I appreciate the way his character didn’t live in the past or make his schoolmates pay for how they treated him. It is refreshing to me that his character was developed in a manner that shows we don’t need grudges in our lives.

I felt that the harder character to balance was Mandy, “Mandy the Magnificent” who is now working as a maid. This was the one in school who had it all, looks, cheerleader, etc. Later she married into money. You’ll love who she became and will appreciate her honesty with her feelings and how she deals with her life. The author gave the perfect amount of her past life history to add a kink to a HEA.

This is a thoroughly entertaining read and I recommend it for all. I give it 4 Stars. I am off to read the next book in the series " Seduction on the Sand" come join me.
