One night of fierce passion and unbound pleasure leaves two strangers craving much more in Lavinia Kent’s sumptuous novel of sensual discovery.
The time has come for the widow Louisa, Lady
Brookingston, to move on, but she refuses to remarry at the cost of shaming her
late husband’s memory. Their six years together were wedded bliss—even if a war
injury prevented him from fulfilling his marital duties. Only one woman can
help Louisa: Madame Rouge, the discreet proprietress of a club where London’s
elite explore their wildest fantasies.
Geoffrey, the Marquess of Swanston, has no
intention of agreeing to deflower an anonymous virgin. But when Madame Rouge
tempts him with the absolute power he’ll have over a woman who knows nothing of
carnal delights, he’s intrigued. Control is the one thing he cannot resist—and
control is what he loses during his night with the blindfolded beauty. He longs
to take her further, to leave his mark upon her perfect behind, but the mystery
woman refuses to see him again. Instead Geoffrey reluctantly agrees to take a
wife, the widow of his dear friend, Lord Brookingston—fating them both to a
wicked surprise.
Mastering the Marquess is an
erotic romance intended for mature audiences.
Author Lavinia Kent does an excellent job on this historical
erotica book. Throughout the book the theme is extremely sensual with a few
scenes that border on dark erotica but fortunately they are few and part of the
storyline.
In the beginning I had a hard time with the slowness of read
and though it was period correct my mind wanted to blaze through the reading.
Seriously I am not sure how the author did it but for once I actually read in a
slow easy manner as the author intended.
Main characters, widow Louisa, Lady Brookingston (aka Grace)
and Geoffrey, the Marquess of Swanston (aka Charles) are dynamic together as
they work through who they are in private versus what is expected in public.
It was refreshing that though Louisa was the proper lady,
she was not afraid to ask for what she needed from Madame Rouge and Geoffrey.
There are times further in the story when I felt the author played too much on
her innocence but it did not distract from the story.
Geoffrey was what every women would want, gentleman in
public and master in private. How he controlled his dark side that he only
showed to strangers feed into the back and forth interaction he has with Louisa
pulling the reader further into the story.
I was intrigued with Geoffrey’s sister, Blythe, and his
prior lover, the Countess, and am curious as to why they behaved the way they
did. And am wondering if a second book will explain this unusual relationship.
This book is a must read for those who love erotica but be
warned you will read it at a slower pace if you are a fast reader like me.
I was given this ARC by NetGalley for an honest opinion
