LOVE ISN’T ALWAYS WHAT IT SEEMS.

Justin Reeve Netherwood, Earl of Kempthorn—a.k.a. Thorn—has never cared much for his neighbor’s daughter. But his twin brother, Gideon, befriended the wild, reckless, and wholly inappropriate Miss Olivia Lydall in youth, and two have been close ever since. So when Olivia finds herself in a state of romantic conflict and seeks out Gideon for advice, he’s only too pleased to oblige. Only problem: The man Olivia is speaking to is Thorn. And now it’s too late for him to tell Olivia the truth…

Thorn always believed that Olivia was too smitten with Gideon for her own good. So what’s the harm in steering her away from him? But Thorn’s charade turns out to be anything but harmless once he begins to see Olivia for who she really is: A woman full of spirit and passion…and someone he can’t live without. But how can Thorn claim Olivia’s heart when their deepening connection—and burning desire—is built on lies and deceit?

This books cover is amazing. It is very dynamic much like the story within the pages. December is a month of reading new authors to me and I am excited to add the Author Alexandra Hawkins. This story drew my attention with the blurb about twin brother's but what kept me reading was the tension between the twins over Olivia.

Having always loved watching the interaction between twins this book stands out for the tension between the two which Thorn was at a loss to understand. Filled with animosity between these two brothers it adds just the right amount of tension to make the story very interesting. Thorn is a typical first son. Always in charge and it was fun watching how the author expanded his stiff personality to accommodate Gideon and Olivia's relationship.

Incorporated in this story is the drama between Olivia and her future stepmother. Lets just say I loved the solution to this relationship and all the drama around these two woman.

My heart was full at the end of this book when Olivia finally understood the dynamics between the three of them. Though this book was amazing throughout I was still left wondering why Gideon disappeared years ago. I am hoping it will be explained in the next book which I will definitely read when it comes out.

I give this 4 STARS for the amusing interaction between Thorn, Gideon and Olivia as well as the ending to this book.

REVIEW 4-1/2 ⭐️'s to Highland Sinner by Hannah Howell

Sportochick's Musings ~  Author Hannah Howell continually surprises me with the variety of her stories. I can never get bored and this is why she is on my Must Read Authors list.

Highland Sinner
(Murray Family #16)
by Hannah Howell

Find This Book At ~ Amazon | B&N | Goodreads
Publisher ~ kensington books
Categories ~ historical romance

In her captivating new novel, New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell returns to the stark majesty of medieval Scotland and the realm of the unforgettable Murray clan, as a seductive knight and a mysterious young woman unite to stop a murderous enemy.

Sir Tormand Murray is certainly a rogue, but a callous killer? Never. Yet he cannot explain how he came to wake up next to the butchered body of one of his former lovers. Someone is prepared to kill again and again until Tormand is found guilty and hanged. And his only hope of discovering the culprit lies with Morainn Ross, a reclusive, sensual beauty gifted with second sight.

Branded a witch, Morainn has never met a man who accepted her strange talent, much less one who could so easily enflame her passion. There's no resisting Tormand's rugged masculinity-and no escaping the enemy who grows more twisted every day. And even as logic decrees that a lasting union is impossible, Morainn knows her destiny is bound forever with the knight who has claimed her, body and soul.

Way before I wrote book reviews I feel in love with Hanna Howell's books but unfortunately I haven't read any recently, though I keep buying them and adding them to my To Be Read Book List. So I was excited to read this book and see what was up with the Murray Family. Author Hannah Howell continually surprises me with the variety of her stories. I can never get bored and this is why she is on my Must Read Authors list.

Morainn Ross was perfect. Her strength of character and how she survived ostracization shows women that it it possible to be strong and stay true to oneself against all odds. Throughout the book she keeps her wits about her and though she becomes afraid she remains strong to her core. This is truly a women to admire and exemplify.

This book had a little bit more violence than I like to read but it was so well written that I couldn't quit reading it. It wasn't the main focus of the story but it did a great job of setting up the plot. Sir Tormand Murray sure ah....liked his women and there was a part that had me laughing at his lack of control when they were around. But it was enduring to see how his family members and friends ribbed him about this and how the chain of events changed his life.

I give this 4-1/2 STARS for it's ability to keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout the book and it is quite a ride.

After five years and many rejections, I finally got my first book on the stands in 1988 – Amber Flame – from Leisure Books (reissued a while back under the title His Bonnie Bride).  Also the western – A Taste of Fire published by Kensington in 1988.  (and reissued by them several times since then)  After about 10 years of writing English, Scottish and western historicals for several publishers (even venturing into the occasional pen-name)  I settled in at Kensington writing Scottish historicals.  Thus was born the great Murray clan (and a very prolific clan as well.)  In June 2009 I started a series set in late-Georgian England concerning two connected families – the Wherlockes and the Vaughns.  The first – If he’s Wicked – was that June, the latest – If He’s Tempted – was released April 2013.  My cunning plan is to then do one of the Wherlockes and one of the Murrays each year.  We’ll see how that works.

I grew up in New England and my family (on the maternal side) has been here since the 1630s.  The paternal side is half Nova Scotian and half English.   Met the hubby in England on a trip to meet and greet the English side of the family, bought him a drink in a pub, and the rest is history.  Been married for 42+ years now.  I have two sons, one a graphic artist (Sam) and one a mechanical engineer (Keir), a daughter-in-law who is a teacher (Beth), and three stunningly attractive, highly intelligent grandchildren (boast much?) – Benjamin, Jennifer, and Evelyn Rose.  And they all live within driving distance – hooray.   Being mildly insane I also have five cats – Matilda (high strung), Shadow (who is a little ferally and lives under a chair in my living-room because she does not like the ‘kittens’ I brought home years ago.), the demonic duo – Jackson and Perkins, and the latest addition, Mungo.

When I am not writing – which isn’t often – I play games on the computer, play the piano (took 13 years of lessons when growing up), crochet (very addicting), read, and garden (some day I will conquer the demon weed).

The Trouble with Dukes by Grace Burrowes

Sportochick's Musings ~ I loved my first book by Grace Burrows, in fact she in on my authors to watch list now.
The Trouble with Dukes
(Windham Brides #1)
by Grace Burrowes

THEY CALL HIM THE DUKE OF MURDER...

The gossips whisper that the new Duke of Murdoch is a brute, a murderer, and even worse—a Scot. They say he should never be trusted alone with a woman. But Megan Windham sees in Hamish something different, someone different.

No one was fiercer at war than Hamish MacHugh, though now the soldier faces a whole new battlefield: a London Season. To make his sisters happy, he'll take on any challenge—even letting their friend Miss Windham teach him to waltz. Megan isn't the least bit intimidated by his dark reputation, but Hamish senses that she's fighting battles of her own. For her, he'll become the warrior once more, and for her, he might just lose his heart.

Great introduction to a new series and written in an uncommon way. I loved my first book by Grace Burrows, in fact she in on my authors to watch list. This story had a lot of characters from other books to the Windham series and it was highly entertaining to see where these relationships stood and how the siblings and family members protected each other. Additionally the Author does a phenomenal job of giving the reader a taste of other books to the series and draws them into wanting to read their stories.

This story is chock-full with robust detail and scenery descriptions that draws the reader into not only this story but the stories of the other characters. I will admit that I was somewhat confused by all the characters in this story but the author saved the day with her beautifully done family trees.

Megan, I love love love her! She is so real including the fact that she wore glasses. Her characters rich detailing will endure the reader and instantly create a bound of wanting her to have everything she desires. Gifted with compassion and the ability to see below the covering of Hamish to who he really was , she won my heart.

Hamish, poor Hamish. I mean really such an interesting man portrayed or thought of as a barbarian. This is where the author excelled in opening up his character slowly like peeling an onion. Slowly as the layers disappeared the reader is treated to an amazing misunderstood man. Well done!

I really look forward to the next book to this series and hope that you will give this book a read.....

I give this 4 STARS for being delight and written in an uncommon way.

My Reviews Of The Windham Brides Series ~
The Trouble with Dukes (#1) - My Review
Too Scot to Handle (#2) - My Review

Grace Burrowes started writing as an antidote to empty nest and soon found it an antidote to life in general. She is the sixth out of seven children, raised in the rural surrounds of central Pennsylvania. Early in life she spent a lot of time reading romance novels and practicing the piano. Her first career was as a technical writer and editor in the Washington, DC, area, a busy job that nonetheless left enough time to read a lot of romance novels.

It also left enough time to grab a law degree through an evening program, produce Beloved Offspring (only one, but she is a lion), and eventually move to the lovely Maryland countryside.

While reading yet still more romance novels, Grace opened her own law practice, acquired a master's degree in Conflict Transformation (she had a teenage daughter by then) and started thinking about writing.... romance novels. This aim was realized when Beloved Offspring struck out into the Big World a few years ago. ("Mom, why doesn't anybody tell you being a grown-up is hard?")

Grace eventually got up the courage to start pitching her manuscripts to agents and editors. The query letter that resulted in "the call" started out: "I am the buffoon in the bar at the RWA retreat who could not keep her heroines straight, could not look you in the eye, and could not stop blushing--and if that doesn't narrow down the possibilities, your job is even harder than I thought." (The dear lady bought the book anyway.)

Once again the author Jax Jillian writes a beautiful emotion packed story that will make you cry while feeling warm and fuzzy inside. This author is the queen of feelings and love letters and she did not disappoint me with this beautiful written love story created within a tragedy.

There is not much I can say that will not give away this story so I will talk about how it made me feel. Sad, fearful, hopeful and finally heartfelt thanks.

As I read the story I admired Jillian for her dedication to Nathan and her desire to make sure he lived. Nathan struggled so much and at no time did he appear pathetic or not believable in his actions. There was a mystical feel to Nathan and Jillian's relationship which does get explained further in the book but it works so well that the reader will start to feel pained by the turn of events and want so desperately for this story to have a happily ever after.

It was written with deep emotions and the flow of the story was executed with a beautiful finesse.

I give this 5 STARS and will always read any book by this author because she knows how to make me cry is such a beautiful emotional way.

Jax Jillian

Jax Jillian was born in Albuquerque, NM but before she turned a year old, her parents moved east to Harrisburg, PA where she was raised. After graduating high school in 1995, Jax attended La Salle University (1999, B.A., Communication), Temple University (2001, M.Ed, Sport & Recreation Administration), and Central Pennsylvania College (2005, A.A.S, Physical Therapist Assistant). She settled in Philadelphia, PA with her husband and son before she became a writer. Jax found a passion for motion pictures at a young age when she remembers “getting lost” in films, and that passion ultimately led her down the path to writing. she loves “getting lost” in her writing and particularly loves writing heartfelt love stories with a touch of tragedy which she believes is the key to truly reaching readers. Jax is the author of Larkin’s Letters and Ryan’s Letters, two contemporary romance novels that have seen early success from reviewers, with both averaging 4.8/5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. She is currently writing her third novel and aspires to write a screenplay one day. When not writing, she works full time as a physical therapist assistant and as a mom to her three-year-old son.

BELLA.jpg

Bella Jeanisse lives for rock music. Addicted to concerts, Avenged Sevenfold, fictional rockers, and blasting music in the car, she can’t get enough. After her father turned her on to Queen, there was no going back. Of course, it didn’t stop there. Playing guitar became a pastime, which didn’t turn into a career… until she started to pen her fantasies and publish them.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York City, she grew up with access to clubs like L’Amour and CBGBs, hung out in Greenwich Village, as well as had plenty of friends in bands. No wonder rockers stayed on her mind. Bringing her ideas to life was a long time coming.

She is now living near Tampa, FL with 3 kids and 2 grandkids, as a single mom. Her family supports her writing even when it seems to take up more time than they feel is necessary. Can’t stop the muse, ya know!

Besides erotic rock star romances, Bella also writes about wild bikers, hot college men and more.
