REVIEW The Last Three Days by Willsin Rowe

The Last Three Days
by Willsin Rowe

But if they last three days… what then?

~ Audience 18+ ~
~ Categories ~ Erotica
~ Find This Book At ~ Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Goodreads

PLEASE NOTE: This story is highly romantic but it is NOT a Romance story. It breaks many of the rules and tropes of Romance. There are some key points to the story which could act as emotional triggers. All acts are consensual.

In a seedy bar, in the rough end of town, the last thing successful lawyer Luther Prescott expected was a kick in the guts from fate. Full-bodied and warm-skinned, novice barmaid Opal Raye is like nobody he’s ever known.

Still finding her feet in a new career, Opal can’t afford distractions. So when the chiseled man in the tailored suit cuts her deep with those steely eyes, she knows instantly whatever starts is destined to end in flames.

His strength tells sweet lies about a future.

Her succulence reminds him what hunger truly is.

They have nothing in common. They can have no future. Yet want becomes need, need becomes addiction, until it threatens all they have, and all they are.

With no other option, they turn to abstinence.

Holed up together for a long weekend.

Three days, two bodies, one goal.

Oh, and no touching.

But if they last three days… what then?

This author amazes me with his versatility plus the wide range and scope of his writings. In this story you will not find a typical erotica romance which most readers are accustom to reading. Instead it deals with an area that most of us are uncomfortable with. What do you do when you are so sexually attracted to a person that you can't keep your hands off them? What do you do if they are in a committed relationship? Does having nothing in common except this sexual need for each other really make you jump into a relationship with no chance of it working out? Is it possible that you can be this sexually attracted to someone and not come to love them.

I had so many questions as I read the book my head was spinning. There were times I wanted to stop reading because my religious and personal standards got pushed against the wall and then as the book went on my mind went ahhhhhhh. What if.....anything is possible and it is worth losing everything.

The emotional love scenes are superbly hot and graphic, the addictive push and pull sexual relationship between Opal and Luther will make you uncomfortable, sad, thoughtful, and seriously hot

I recommend you read this book to shake yourself up a bit and because of it's uniqueness.

I fall in love with a scent, a playful expression or an act of casual intimacy more easily than with physical beauty. When confronted by any combination of those I am a lost cause.
I have done many things over and over. I have done even more things only once. I have half-done more things than I care to admit.

I don't yet know if I can ski, speak Italian or keep calm in a life-threatening situation, but I have my suspicions.

I play bass in a swampy blues band. I love to sing and don't let my voice get in the way.

I am intelligent but not sensible. I am polite but inappropriate. I am passionate but fearful. I am honest but reticent. I am neither stylish enough nor scruffy enough to be cool.

Guest Review US of Books ~ WA ~ The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
by Sherman Alexie, Ellen Forney (Illustrator)

Entertainment Weekly says about their Washington state pick– “Alexie grapples with serious issues through the not-always-serious voice of a 14-year-old caught between his life on the reservation and his entry into an all-white high school.”

~ Synopsis ~

Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.

Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings by Ellen Forney that reflect the character's art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he was destined to live.

~ Review ~

I was intrigued with this book once I learned that this story was based on the author’s own experience. I was not aware of the coarse language in the book until I began reading it; which in my opinion makes this read inappropriate for younger readers. However, that said, I did appreciate that even though this teenager saw a lot of heartache and injustice, including racism and death, there is a lot of laughs throughout the story.

I like the narration of the book, hence the title. That was different than the typical read. Gave it a different feel from a story being told. Even with the racial divide in the story that the boy dealt with, I think this story is very relatable to other young adults out there (tragedy in life, being bullied, and the instability that life can bring with its ever-changing twists that life tends to do to all of us. All in all, a good book and a quick read that I would definitely recommend to everyone to read.

The remaining three weakling vampires snarled and launched themselves as one at her. Eve did her best to block each blow they threw, her forearms taking the brunt of their wrath, and tried to get some attacks of her own in. They were relentless, driving her backwards, crowding her and making it impossible for her to escape.
She bit her tongue to silence her cries as claws cut and fists slammed, each blow weakening her a little more.
She couldnít die yet. She needed peace. She needed to make the bastard pay.
It couldnít end here. Now.
A cry escaped her as sharp talons sliced through her right biceps and she dropped her only weapon.
A deep male voice rolled over her like a storm, his foreign tongue dark and sinister.
The three vampires crowding her eased back and turned as one to face the newcomer. Eve withdrew, clutching her arm. Blood spilled from between her fingers and the ever-present hunger grew worse, bringing out her fangs as it demanded she taste the sweet, coppery liquid.
A fifth male melted out of the shadows at the entrance of the club, a six-foot-five wall of lethal muscle and deadly grace, his face obscured by the hood of his oversized black sweatshirt. Calm laced with malice rolled off him and she felt his gaze flicker to her.
A hot shiver went through her in response to the intense feeling, the incredible awareness that shot an arrow straight through her heart and made the rest of the room fall away in an instant, drawing every shred of her focus to him.
He calmly set his black duffle down on the bar and strode forwards with purpose, his black army boots loud on the wooden floor. She felt his eyes leave her. The room crashed back into existence and air rushed into her lungs again.
The low lights flickered over the lower half of his face, giving tantalising glimpses of firm, sensual lips and a defined jaw. The corner of those lips quirked, a split-second shift that she would have missed had she not been staring so intently at them.
Panic began as a low thrumming in her belly, a turbulent swirling that made her take another step back for each one he advanced, placing more distance between them. The malice and darkness he emanated grew stronger and her instincts warned her away, screamed that she stood no chance against this newcomer.
He was stronger than the other four combined.
Stronger than Oneiric.
Her panic exploded into outright fear as the man reached behind his back, whipped out a black pistol and fired off a round, nailing the vampire she had tagged as the leader between his eyes. His head snapped backwards, blood spraying from the gaping wound in the back of his skull, and he fell into a table, crushing it under him.
The other two rushed the man.
They didnít stand a chance.
He took the first out with lethal efficiency, kicking him hard in the balls and then catching him with a diagonal uppercut as he doubled over, snapping his neck.
Eve stood frozen to the spot, unsure what to make of the deadly new combatant, and unsure whether he was friend or foe.
She hoped to God he wasnít foe.
She wasnít even sure he was a vampire. Her scrambled senses said that he was but he didnít fight like any vampire she had ever met. None of them had used guns for a start, and none of them fought dirty as this man did.
The remaining male bravely faced off against him, brandishing both of her fallen knives.
It didnít help him.
The huge male cupped his hands and stepped forwards, nothing more than a blur as he closed the distance between him and the remaining vampire. He slapped his hands over the vampireís ears, the crack as they connected startling her into moving, placing even more distance between them. The vampire unleashed an agonised snarl and thrust with one of the blades. The man sidestepped, caught his arm and twisted it hard, bringing his other hand down in a devastating blow that shattered the bone.
The vampireís agonised snarl became a scream.
The man calmly grabbed him by his throat, pressed his free hand against his face, and shoved forwards, snapping his head backwards and breaking his neck.
Eve took another step backwards, towards the door to the back rooms. Maybe she should have made a break for the exit while the man had been occupied with neatly defeating three vampires in under three minutes.
He advanced on her, the sense of malice coming from him not abating. If anything, it was getting stronger.
When he reached the gunshot victim, he casually crouched over him and ruthlessly snapped his neck, twisting hard enough that the crack was audible and sickening, making her own spine ache in response and her stomach turn. He rose to his feet, his backdrop a vision of darkness as the vampires began to turn to ashes, and approached her, silent but not wary.
Confidence and danger flowed from him, as if those two words were created for him alone.
An assassin.
A man bred for the purpose of killing.
She had met men like him in her years as a hunter, but not on his level.
Eve backed off another step and hit the wall beside the door to the back rooms.
The man continued his advance, each step closer he came only making her more aware of how immense he was as she had to tilt her head back to keep her unsteady gaze on what she could see of his face.
Oneiric appeared beside her and the man halted his approach.
ìI dealt with all the ones out the back. Are you alright?î Oneiric said in a low voice, his crimson gaze never leaving the newcomer.
Eve kept her eyes locked on him too and nodded. ìSustained a few injuries but theyíre healing. I took one down, andÖ wellÖ he handled the rest. Any idea what they wanted?î
She waited, curious and a little afraid, as the male shifted his focus to Oneiric.
ìI imagine it was the usual grudge against our kind. My ones had a few choice things to say about us.î Oneiric moved closer to her, a protective gesture by the vampire who called himself her father, one that she appreciated.
ìIt must get tiring. You think they would get bored of killing themselves.î She glanced at him, catching his brief smile.
They had spent hours discussing how foolish the weakling vampires were, those with muddied blood that made them far less powerful than vampires of the seven pure bloodlines. They often attacked pureblood vampires. Oneiric had called it suicide. She had to agree. As a hunter, she had seen weaklings picking fights with purebloods and it always ended the same. A gruesome death for the weakling.
She pressed her palms against the wall behind her, clinging to it for support as her tired body threatened to give out under the stress of the fight and the presence of the assassin.
Whenever his focus leaped to her, she felt the full extent of his power and it pressed down on her. Oneiric had warned such a thing would happen around stronger members of the seven pure bloodlines and she hadnít believed him until now.
This vampire was more powerful than any she had met. What did he want with her father? Had he just been passing and had sensed the fight, and had come to help them? Or did he have business at the club? He would make one hell of a bouncer.
Her father eyed the ashes of the vampires and then the man before them.
ìI thought Lilith would be the one to come for Eve,î Oneiric said and Eve swallowed hard.
This man couldnít possibly be her escort.
She wasnít going anywhere with him.
The towering male said nothing in response. He simply stuck his gun down the back of his black jeans and then casually pushed his hood back.
Eveís breath left her in a rush.
Piercing glacial blue eyes held fast on Oneiric, the pale white-blond eyebrows above them drawing down, causing them to narrow and intensify. The man was handsome, not at all as she had expected, but radiated danger too, a sense of deadliness that his appearance could easily belie.
She had never thought she would face a vampire and think they were beautiful. Her body heated, her blood turning to liquid fire at the sight of him, a startling reaction that she couldnít control.
He glanced at her and then his cold eyes shifted back to Oneiric.
Eve could only stare at the contradiction before her. No doubt he made the perfect assassin. His looks distracted her from the darker side she could feel in himóthe vast coldnessóand the dangerous side she had witnessedóthe lethal, efficient killer. His pale eyes glittered with intelligence as they held Oneiricís, filled with a calculating edge that made her feel he was five steps ahead of them, already predicting the outcome of every move he made or thing he said.
Here was the kind of man that nothing slipped past. Not even the smallest detail. He was dangerous because of that, and confident too. He knew himself and his skills, and that he could take down both Oneiric and her without breaking a metaphorical sweat. That scared her a little, but didnít stop her from feeling drawn to him. If anything, it only pulled her deeper under his spell.
The man he was inside lent a rough edge to his beauty that made him masculine. Probably the closest definition to male she had ever met. A feral, deadly devil wrapped in the guise of an angel.
She had never seen anything like him, and knew she never would again.

REVIEW Indigo by Willsin Rowe

Indigo by Willsin Rowe

I give this 5 stars for being deeply profound and it is getting added to my All Time Favorite Books List

~ Audience 18+ ~

*This story also appears in the "Crimson Desires" anthology*

Lush redhead Indigo Byrne’s greatest form of expression comes through her viola. She pours her soul into her music at the expense of everything else; friends, family, even lovers. But her life changes in a single moment, when a dark presence makes itself known, and her body blooms with a dangerous desire.

After nine centuries on Earth, Caleb Durant believes he’s seen everything this world can offer. With an unblemished record of ending every life he feeds from, the joyful music of living has become the trudging rhythm of mere existence. But when he senses the essence of the curvy young violist, Caleb doubts his sanity. In 900 years he’s felt nothing like it.

When these two outsiders come together, spirits soar, blood flows and long-hidden secrets beg for release. But if Caleb gives her everything—his heart, his soul, and his bite—he may just kill his soul mate.

Her sharp intake of breath sent an extra charge down into Caleb’s belly. Whether he admits it or not, every man gets a thrill when he elicits fear. Be he human or vampire. Her hummingbird heart sang through its cage, though even filled as she was with terror at what could happen, still she reached for him. Even as he parted his lips and showed her for certain he was exactly as he claimed to be, she pulled him forward.

The earthy weight of her breast, the divine succulence of her flesh, filled his hands and his heart. Her warmth curled around him in a cloud of perfection. The touch of her silken skin against his threatened to devolve him to the animal level; that of his homeless brethren in the dank alleys at the city’s heart. Eat. Fuck. Kill.

Once again Author Willsin Rowe writes another impactful deeply profound book and hits a home run with this erotic paranormal romance novella that moved me to tears.

Indigo is not your normal Paranormal Romance..... it is much more than that. There are some beautiful musical scenes between Indigo and Ray. The authors musical visionary between a musician and her instrument brought about all the longings and desires invoked via music and caused me head to iTunes and YouTube to hear the music he mentioned.

And lets not forget the unforgettable sexy as hell vampire Caleb. His character though a little unusual and to me lonely, sets off this storyline to perfection.

I give this 5 stars for being deeply profound and it is getting added to my All Time Favorite Books List

REVIEW Barefoot with a Bad Boy by Roxanne St. Claire

Barefoot with a Bad Boy
(Barefoot Bay Undercover #3)

by Roxanne St. Claire

A man who trusts no one is forced to believe the unbelievable...

~ Categories ~ contemporary romance, Intrigue

A man who trusts no one is forced to believe the unbelievable...

For years, former spy Gabriel Rossi has been secretly searching for CIA linguist Isadora Winter, a woman he loved and lost long ago. But recently, he learned of her untimely death in an accident...and death of her son named Gabe. Angry, hurt, and uncertain of his next move, Gabe is stunned when a woman he's never met approaches him on the beach and claims to be Isadora. She doesn't look, act, or talk like his beloved Isa, but she knows things about their past that only a lover could know, and she assures him that his son is alive as well. As much as he wants to believe her and knows that in the spy world, anything is possible, doubts and distrust plague him. Still, he sees glimmers of the woman he once knew shine through and she begins to melt his hardened heart.

A woman who is tortured by emotions must endure the pain of love...

Lila Wickham has been working deep undercover for so long that sometimes she's forgotten who she really is. Now that her assignment is over and the surgeries she endured left her utterly changed, she is determined to fix the broken life she left behind and assure that her little boy is safe. With lingering threats from an unknown source and blinding headaches that torment her whenever she feels deep emotion, she seeks Gabe Rossi for help and protection. But instead of setting her up with a new undercover identity, he insists on luring her nemesis to Barefoot Bay so he can end the threat to Lila and her son once and for all.

Can they survive the worst betrayal of all?

Even if they succeed in drawing out the killer who has Lila in his sights, a much more serious threat hovers over them...a treacherous, deadly truth that could not only destroy their love but end their lives as well.

A fast paced suspenseful, deeply emotional 5 STAR read.

Gabe's story is a mysterious web of intrigue filled with a multitude of emotions and danger. I sat on the edge of my chair the whole time praying that Gabe would find the happiness he deserved.

Both of the main characters, Gabe and Lila have a hardness in their personalities that created for me a intense need for an HEA for this tortured pair. The author does an astounding job of balancing this hardness of character with the deep abiding feeling of hope, lost love and new found love.

Although some people may feel the surgery part of the plot regarding Lila/Isadora was not believable I felt myself drawn deeply into the explanation and felt it was plausible. But I wasn't drawn to Lila as much as I would have wished and a part of me was angry with how she treated Gabe. But when Isadora came out to play I could see what Gabe had loved about her causing me to open my heart to what she went through.

This is a great read and there will be some tears but what an amazing book.
