Blaze
Dark Kings #11
by Donna Grant
Publisher ~ St. Martin's Press Romance
Genres ~ Paranormal Romance
His strength, his masculinity brought out something primal within her. In his arms, she felt like the Amazon warrior she’d once pretended to be as a little girl.
Anson is a fierce Dragon King, a dragon shapeshifter born and bred to protect his own. But when a rogue tech company hacks into their world, he must join forces with the unlikeliest of allies: a human female. Her name is Devon Abrams. A rising star at the firm, she has no idea that her boss is in league with the sinister Fae and their secret war against humanity. If Anson gains her trust, he can defeat the enemy from within. But first he must fight his own attraction—to this exquisitely beautiful mortal…
Devon loves her job at the firm. But sometimes she wishes she could find a man—a real man—who isn’t threatened by her success. When she first meets Anson, she’s overwhelmed by his powerful masculine presence and disarmingly gorgeous smile. But when he reveals his true mission—and his ability to transform into a dragon—she’s irresistibly drawn into an epic battle between humans and immortals, magic and technology, danger and desire. Anson vows to protect her from the Fae. But can he control the flames of passion that blaze within his heart?
In the beginning I wasn't sure if Devon would be a strong enough primary female character for this book but she had a quiet strength about her that was refreshing and created a no-nonsense type feeling as she moved through this story. Readers will come to admire her and how she deals with all the unusual and scary things that begin to happen to her.
Mr. I don't need help, Anson, comes across as not caring or involved in what is happening but don't let this fool you. As a primary male character, he is continually evolving throughout the story showing him as caring and compassionate as well as angry and violent. The author does a phenomenal job of slowly letting his softer side come out while keeping the tension present.
This book has most of the characters from previous books to this series so it feels like home while you are reading. You learn a little more about Rhi and Con's lost relationship and you get to see more of the Evil Ulrick and his uncle. For me, Rhi's part in this book just keeps her pain up upfront and personal regarding her breakup with Con, constantly tearing at the hole in my heart when I think of them losing each other.
Also, woven into the story are characters from the Dark Sword series and the newer Reaper series. This is by far one of the parts that I love about the author, Donna Grant's writing. She always brings in previous series creating a larger world for the reader. I have read every book of these three series and many of her other series. How many have you read?
Because of the uniqueness of Anson and Devon's story I give this 4.5 Stars.
