The Risk of Rogues
Sinful Suitors #5.5
by Sabrina Jeffries
Publisher ~ Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books
Genres ~ Historical Romance
Featuring New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries’ “hallmark humor, poignancy, and sensuality” (Romantic Times), this entry in the Sinful Suitors series inspires you to risk all for love.
Lady Anne is shocked when Captain Lord Hartley Corry—her former fiancĂ© who left for India after her father forbade their marriage—returns to England and acts as if everything is all water under the bridge. He never fought for her hand or eloped with her as he promised and he thinks she’d still be willing to marry him? Not a chance.
Hartley is equally shocked to literally run into his past love upon arriving at his brother’s house. Though he yearns to take advantage of this second chance to woo his beloved, he can hardly admit that he is secretly a spy—at least not until he can be sure he trusts her. But convincing Lady Anne to let him prove his sincerity by courting her respectably all over again might be his undoing.Because all he wants is to show her how much of a rogue he can be when the right woman is in his arms…
Lady Anne is quite an interesting person. With her outrageous hats and her kind heart the reader will fall in love with her like her Captain Lord Hartley Corry did when they were younger. She guards her heart and though her life situation had changed since she last saw Hart, she's lost her willingness to be open hearted concerning him. Her bluntness in dealing with Hart and Fulkham is not only extremely entertaining for the reader but Fulkham also is quite amused with her.
Hart never got over his loss of his love who was now a lady. In this story Hart realizes so many things would have been different in his life if he made different decisions when he was younger and originally in love with Anne. He is persistent yet allowing Anne space to get to know him again and to hopefully fall in love with him all over.
What Author Sabrina Jefferies does really well is showing what went wrong in the past and why on both of their parts, as well as showing that even the worse situation can change with a heart full of love and the courage to admit your part in the mistakes.
I give it 4 stars for showing readers that there is always hope to overcome devastating errors made in the past and that sometimes being honest means giving up something you also love for something or someone you love more.

Sabrina Jeffries is the NYT bestselling author of over 50 novels and works of short fiction (some written under the pseudonyms Deborah Martin and Deborah Nicholas). Whatever time not spent writing in a coffee-fueled haze of dreams and madness is spent traveling with her husband and adult autistic son or indulging in one of her passions—jigsaw puzzles, chocolate, and music. With over 8 million books in print in 20 different languages, the North Carolina author never regrets tossing aside a budding career in academics for the sheer joy of writing fun fiction, and hopes that one day a book of hers will end up saving the world.
She always dreams big.
